Week 2 Day 1
IJU vs. “STB” Nuff Said
In arguably the best game of the NexPro season thus far, ISS JUS USS took “STB” Nuff
Said to OT with only six guys available, but Shorter’s team went home with a 92-89 loss. IJU
controlled through three quarters, a surprising feat to say the least when only six guys suit
up, and even one of the six showed up at the half. However, the fatigue came back to bite
them in the end as they were outscored by twelve points in the fourth quarter and
overtime.
While Danuel House and D’Mond Grismore carried the team through the first two
games, Rashad Woods stepped up to give Nuff Said (2-1) a much needed third scoring
option today. House put up 25 and 9, Grismore had 23 and 7, and Woods supplied 28 and 6
to account for 76 of the team’s 92 points. Nuff Said was down by nine points going into the
fourth, but D’Mond and Rashad combined for 16 points and 7 rebounds during the final
frame to close the gap. The team also picked up some big offensive boards and key
defensive stops throughout the fourth in order to shut down IJU and put them in the
position to get to OT. And as Grismore and Woods stepped up throughout the game, House
did his usual endgame performance to lift his team in overtime. Nuff Said’s next game will
come Monday night against Team Ford.
With five and a half players available, IJU (1-2) sure did put on a show. When the
game started, the IJU bench was empty, then, halfway through the game, Carl Garcia
showed up and rode the bench through most of the second half. Only after Jermaine Greene
fouled out in OT did Garcia’s halftime show pay any dividends. That being said, John Gillon
and Shannon Shorter put on a show, combining for 60 points and boosting a team that
nearly played 5 on 11. But in OT as tempers flared, Greene fouled out on a makeup call and
Gillon was T’d up after another call went against IJU, sealing the game for House and Nuff
Said. They will go on to face Houston Flights on Monday.
